The Tobin
Project seeks applications and nominations for the position of Communications Director.
The
Tobin Project is a growing organization aimed at affecting thinking within the
academy to create a favorable context for policy reform. The project, which
brings leading scholars and policy makers together to promote outstanding work
in a small number of research areas, seeks nominations and applications for the
position of Director of Communications.
The Tobin Project seeks a
creative and sophisticated communications professional to increase the presence
and influence of academic ideas in the public debate. S/he will become familiar
with the latest thinking on a variety of topics by Tobin Project scholars
including Nobel Laureates alongside younger standouts in their fields and
create and execute a strategy to help disseminate these ideas. The Director of
Communications will author articles for the Tobin Project and work with scholars
to develop their research ideas into op-eds and other widely-accessible formats.
S/he will identify print and digital outlets and conduct outreach to facilitate
the publication of papers, op-eds, and books. S/he will also look beyond
traditional publication channels to conceive of innovative ways for scholars to
share their thinking and research. The Director of Communications will develop
and lead a public relations strategy for the Tobin Project; creating content for
the annual report, website, and newsletters and handling media relations.
The Director of Communications
will be a superb writer and editor. S/he will be interested in academic
research and public debate. S/he will have an intimate understanding of the
current landscape of academic and popular media and possess the
relationship-building skills necessary to help facilitate the placement of Tobin
Project ideas. S/he will be an entrepreneurial and creative thinker; able to
conceive of new ways in which publications can serve as incentives and avenues
for participation by scholars in the public debate. S/he will exhibit
exceptional attention to detail. S/he will have at least 5-10 years of
communications experience in the academic, policy, or related field, and will be
driven by a deep and personal commitment to the mission of the Tobin Project.
The Tobin Project would consider uniquely-qualified part-time applicants.
