Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors is pleased to announce that James O'Sullivan has been hired as Director in Donor Services in the New York City office. In his career at three private foundations, Jim has worked on program design, grant and program-wide evaluation, and in grants management and finance. Currently, he is a senior program officer at the John A. Hartford Foundation, the country's largest private funder devoted exclusively to aging and health issues. At Hartford, he is responsible for the national Geriatric Social Work Initiative. He also staffs the Paul B. Beeson Career Development Awards program in collaboration with the National Institute on Aging, The Atlantic Philanthropies, and other funders, and oversees the Foundation's communications and dissemination programs. He also served as the Foundation's program officer for September 11th and Katrina/Rita Hurricanes grantmaking. Prior to the Hartford Foundation, he served as program officer for grants at the Open Society Institute's Center on Crime, Communities and Culture, where he created a $13 million national grants program of rehabilitative services for prisoners, ex-prisoners and their families, and victims of crime, and as program officer at the Charles A. Dana Foundation, where he was program officer for a $5 million annual grant making program on clinical applications of neuroscience research. At Dana, he also staffed a ten-year retrospective review of grants and publications. Jim received his bachelors degree in history and journalism at the University at Albany, and earned a Masters in Public Health from Columbia University and an M.Phil degree from the Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service at New York University. He is also a member of the Founder's Group of the Opportunity Charter School in New York City, a "Schools Attuned" education program serving grades 6 - 12 in Harlem. Jim is a member of the NYRAG Gulf Coast Recovery Task Force and the Disability Funders Network.
