Horizons for Homeless Children is pleased to announce that Andrea Urbano has been hired as their new Director of Center Based Programs. Andrea Urbano is dedicated to her work with young children. She has been actively involved in the field of Early Childhood Education for the past 25 years as a teacher, administrator, trainer, advocate, state licensor and education consultant. She joins Horizons for Homeless Children from Connecticut Charts-A-Course when she was a trainer. In this role, she developed undergraduate and graduate level courses for directors and administrators of early childhood education programs. She previously served as the Administrator for Our Lady of Calvary where she was able to explore her interest in theology and spirituality. Prior to her spiritual work, Andrea served as the Coordinator at the Waterbury School Readiness Program, the Senior Director of Childcare Services at the Westport/Weston YMCA, the Director at St. Vincent Child Care Center, and as the State Child Care Licensor for the Department of Health Services in Hartford, Connecticut. Andrea brings to Horizons for Homeless Children extensive licensing and accreditation experience as well as strong managerial and administrative support. Sarah Fujiwara, Chief Programs Officer at Horizons for Homeless Children, is thrilled to have Andrea join the group and anticipates that she will make a positive impact on the staff and strategic, long-term success of the organization. Andrea holds a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education from New York University and a Master of Education in Early Childhood Education from Boston College. About Horizons for Homeless Children: Horizons for Homeless Children (HHC) was founded in 1988 as an independent, non-profit organization dedicated exclusively to serving young homeless children and their families. Since that time, the organization has grown into a complex, well- established force fighting for young homeless children in Massachusetts and beyond. HHC currently impacts the lives of more than 2,700 homeless children each week in Massachusetts through educational and recreational activities in shelters and serves 175 young children through its three Community Children's Centers, Boston's only comprehensive, full-time early education and care centers specifically for young homeless children. In addition to direct service, HHC advocates on behalf of homeless children and their families with policy makers and provides training and technical assistance on the local and national level to related service providers. HHC has two openings in Playspace Programs: Director of the West Region (office in Holyoke) and Floating Director of Playspace Programs (this position is a floating position providing coverage in the regions as needed. 30/week maximum and not full year- as needed covering vacations, openings, sick. It is a permanent position paid like a consultant, expected to be up to 30 weeks a year.) In addition there are two full-time teacher positions in Roxbury: Infant Teacher and Floating Teacher.
