Our Commitment to Diversity

We make every effort to present diverse pools of qualified candidates for each search. Since 2007, we closed more than two thirds of our searches with women or minorities and close to a quarter with female minorities.

Hello!

As more organizations seek to diversify their workplaces, a large and growing body of evidence offers strong support for the conclusion that building diverse teams is not only the moral thing to do but also can be smart business. In recent years, the mission-driven sector, along with its supporting cast of funders and consultants, has begun a more open and goal-driven dialogue about what diversity means and how to achieve diversity within their organizations. However, despite volumes of research that point to why diversity makes sense broadly, many mission-driven organizations remain stymied as to how to define diversity for themselves and how to hire and retain diverse teams.

In this month's newsletter, we take a hard look at recruiting strategies to make diversity more meaningful in your organization. The authors, executive recruiter Katherine Jacobs, Ph.D., Managing Partner at the Nonprofit Professionals Advisory Group, and research scholar Andrew Grant-Thomas, Ph.D., Deputy Director of The Kirwan Institute for the Study of Race and Ethnicity, draw on research and best practices in organizational management to explore diversity in recruiting in the mission-driven sector. Through their partnership, they offer organizations actionable strategies to understand and define diversity in ways that are personalized to their staffing, achievable within the confines of their individual contexts, and sustainable in the long term.

Mr. Starks began his career as a Program Officer at the Echoing Green Foundation and as an educator and organizer at the Institute for Youth Entrepreneurship in Harlem. He also served as the Associate Director of Racial Justice Initiative and Fellowship Programs at the Open Society Institute (OSI), an international foundation that seeks to promote justice and democracy around the world. Special Olympics International Names CMDO

Nonprofit Professionals Advisory Group has completed the Chief Marketing & Development Officer search for Special Olympics International. Cynthia Court was selected for the position. The search was completed by Tracy Welsh, Vice President and Allison Kupfer, Managing Associate with Nonprofit Professionals Advisory Group.

Prior, as Executive Vice President of Resource Development and Marketing at Boys and Girls Clubs of America, Ms. Court managed a staff of 100 consisting of both a centralized staff that raised $65 million on a national-level, and a team that worked in partnership with the field programs that specifically targeted corporate, foundation and individual gifts in support of a $500 million campaign. She has significant experience in corporate partnership as well as marketing expertise and donor leadership skills. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in English and History in addition to a Bachelor of Education degree, both from York University in Toronto.

Ms. Court will be joining Special Olympics at a critical time as the organization works towards achieving its 2015 strategic plan goals. Over the past 10 years, Special Olympics has grown rapidly - growing the number of participating athletes to nearly 4 million; establishing new Special Olympics Programs throughout the world; adding new and enhanced initiatives in the areas of education, youth engagement, health, research and family support; introducing new official sports, and welcoming more volunteers and coaches.
