An NPAG Interview with Erin O'Connor Jones, Director of Candidate Consultation This month, Nonprofit Professionals
Advisory Group is thrilled to introduce Erin O'Connor
Jones as its new Director of Candidate Consultation.
In this edition's feature article, Erin answers some of
the most pressing questions we get from nonprofit job
seekers, whether they are looking to transition into the
sector or have been here their whole careers. The
questions include:
What have been some of the
most common mistakes that you have seen
candidates make? How does one get good at job
seeking when it's something they rarely do? How should a candidate answer
the inevitable questions about weaknesses? How should a candidate a
discuss difficult situation, like a layoff or a firing? How should candidate negotiate
disappointing job offers? Erin O'Connor Jones has been committed to mentoring candidates from resume writing to final negotiations in their nonprofit job search throughout her nearly 20 years career leading and managing large and small entrepreneurial nonprofits. Prior to joining NPAG, Erin served as the Executive Director of the Family-to-Family Project, a Boston-based agency committed to ending family homelessness. She was formerly the Vice President of Communications and Business Development at Youth Alternatives, a statewide child welfare and mental health agency based in Portland, Maine, and was the Director of Program Development and Evaluation at the Home for Little Wanderers in Boston. Her diverse background includes management, mentoring, program development, communications and fundraising in the areas of child welfare, mental health, homelessness and housing.

spoke to alumni from Net Impact, a global
organization of students and professionals using
business to improve the world.
If you are like most MBA students
and business professionals thinking about a
transition to the nonprofit sector, you have likely asked
many questions about timing, whether you will be able
to apply your skills in a nonprofit job, financial
sustainability, and how best to make the transition.
During this call Laura Gassner Otting covers those
topics and helps lay out a path to success for Net
Impact members seeking to move to a career in a
nonprofit. Net Impact offers a portfolio of programs and initiatives to educate, equip and inspire our over 10,000 members to make a tangible difference through business. Spanning six continents, our membership is one of the most influential networks of students and professionals in existence today and includes current and emerging leaders in corporate social responsibility, social entrepreneurship, nonprofit management, international development and environmental sustainability. The Net Impact network includes over 200 chapters in cities throughout the world and a central office in San Francisco.
