Director of ePhilanthropy

VolunteerMatch

San Francisco, California

Volunteers power the nonprofit sector. From building new playgrounds to rebuilding homes, volunteers help nonprofits to fulfill their challenging and ambitious missions in a myriad of ways. Yet individuals and nonprofits need help finding one another.  Founded in 1998, VolunteerMatch is a nationally recognized nonprofit Internet service dedicated to making it easier for good people and good causes to connect.  Having grown from a small community of dedicated volunteers and nonprofit organizations, VolunteerMatch now boasts the largest online volunteer recruiting network in the country. As a leader in the nonprofit world, VolunteerMatch offers a variety of online services to support a community of nonprofits, volunteers, and business leaders committed to civic engagement. The VolunteerMatch network currently supports over 42,000 nonprofit organizations, 40+ business partners and has welcomed more than 3.3 million visitors this year.

Having been extraordinarily successful in its first seven years, VolunteerMatch is now embarking on the next stage of its growth. The organization has the benefit of a strong financial position, a new President, a talented and committed staff, 700,000 registered members, and a robust online service that is eminently scalable and constantly evolving to meet users’ needs.  The Director of ePhilanthropy will report to the Chief Operating Officer, serve on the senior management team, and will play a key role in making this growth possible.

VolunteerMatch

VolunteerMatch was founded in 1998 at the height of the technology boom by a group of innovative social entrepreneurs who dared to believe in one simple, compelling idea: that the transformative power of the Internet could reshape our social landscape by making it easier for volunteers and nonprofits to find one another.  The organization has used technology to create a marketplace for civic engagement that makes finding a great place to volunteer as easy as entering your ZIPcode.

As a nonprofit with a belief in the power of technology for “doing good,” VolunteerMatch has been able to remain relatively small in size (25 staff members), but shrewd in its use of technology to reduce the barriers that keep millions of people from finding rewarding volunteer relationships.  Today the VolunteerMatch network has opportunities in every ZIP code in the US and its business partnerships are shaping the future of corporate social responsibility.

VolunteerMatch is the recipient of two Webby Awards for “Activism” and “Services,” has been honored by the Smithsonian Institution and by MIT, and in May, 2004, was a Grand Prize winner in the national Business Plan Competition sponsored by the Yale School of Management, the Goldman Sachs Foundation, and the Pew Charitable Trusts. VoulunteerMatch has been recognized for its social service efforts in the San Jose Mercury News, the Wall Street Journal, the New York Times, the Washington Post, USA Today, Forbes, and also on ABC News, CBS, MSNBC, CNN, and the Oprah Winfrey Show.

Greg Baldwin, the new President of VolunteerMatch as of November 1, 2006, was a member of the original team that launched VolunteerMatch.org in 1998. He has served the organization in a variety of senior management positions, most recently as Executive Officer for Philanthropy and Strategic Partnerships. A Public Policy graduate of Brown University, Greg is a life-long volunteer, and a respected voice in the nonprofit sector. Under Greg’s leadership, the organization is well positioned to continue the rapid pace of growth that has characterized its first seven years.

VolunteerMatch has consistently attracted high caliber talent to its staff, from both for-profits and non-profits, all of whom share a passion for the power of technology to transform the world in which we live.  The VolunteerMatch culture is fast-moving, results-oriented, informal, and for the right candidate an exciting and challenging place to work.
